Working with a Compact Tractor: The Backhoe — Dig Accurately, Quickly and Effortlessly

Working with a compact tractor: the backhoe — dig accurately, quickly and effortlessly

A backhoe, or rear hydraulic digging arm, turns a compact tractor into a small excavator. With it you can dig foundations for a fence or patio, lay a cable or water connection, create a drainage ditch or pull out stumps — all by yourself, without hiring heavy machinery.

How does a backhoe work?

The backhoe is mounted on the tractor's rear three-point hitch and connected to the PTO shaft. The operator controls the movement of the boom and bucket with hydraulic levers. During work, the stabiliser legs rest on the ground and stop the tractor from moving — so digging is safe and accurate.
