4WD Compact Tractors
Kubota compact tractors with all-wheel drive — machines from 15 to 60 hp, weighing 590 to 1,969 kg, priced from 169,000 to 560,000 CZK incl. VAT. The median price is around 265,000 CZK.
4WD is what makes the difference on slopes, on waterlogged meadows and wherever the machine pulls or pushes something — a winch, a plough, a backhoe or a front loader. Some machines have selectable drive between 4WD and 2WD, so on paved roads you drive on two wheels and spare the front differential.

When you really need 4WD
On slopes, on wet meadows, in the forest and for any work where the machine transfers tractive force to the ground. Typically ploughing, winching, backhoe work and handling a full front-loader bucket. On a flat, well-kept garden where the machine only mows, all-wheel drive is not needed and a machine without it costs less.
The second advantage of 4WD is braking. When driving downhill with a load, engine braking acts through all four wheels, which is noticeably safer than through two.
Permanent versus selectable drive
| Type | Number of machines | Advantage | Disadvantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Permanent 4WD | 32 | always ready, simpler operation | higher tyre wear on paved surfaces |
| Selectable 4WD / 2WD | 28 | spares the front differential and tyres when travelling | the operator has to switch according to the terrain |

What to watch out for
- Do not engage 4WD on dry tarmac. The wheels turn at different speeds and stress builds up in the transmission, which destroys the front differential.
- Keep tyre wear even. Unevenly worn tyres on the axles of 4WD machines put strain on the drivetrain.
- Weight matters just as much. All-wheel drive on its own will not help if the machine is too light for the work you want it to do.
- Differential lock is fitted on some machines and you will appreciate it in heavy terrain. It is listed in the specifications of each individual machine.
Frequently asked questions
How can I tell whether a machine has 4WD?
Every machine lists it in the technical specifications under Drive — you will find either "4 x 4", or "4 x 4 - 4 x 2" for selectable drive.
How much more does a 4WD machine cost?
Most machines in our range have all-wheel drive, so the price depends more on power and equipment than on the drive itself. The cheapest 4WD machines start at 169,000 CZK.
When is 2WD enough?
On flat, well-kept areas where the machine mainly mows or mulches and does not pull anything heavy. In practice this applies to smaller gardens without significant slopes.
Can a 4WD tractor handle winter work?
Yes — for snow clearing, all-wheel drive is a big advantage. If you plan year-round use, also consider a machine with a cab.
